People have been asked to stay indoors in order to avoid catching the infection as well as avoid spreading the infection to uninfected individuals. This will help in nothing but flattening the curve and reducing the burden of new cases. In the middle of this crisis, with no effective treatment in hand- staying indoors and social distancing is the only effective method of controlling this pandemic.
However, is also a known fact that having a strong immunity can prevent you from catching an infection. A person with a good immune system is able to combat illnesses in a better way as compared to someone with a weak immune system. Also if in case he or she ends up falling sick- there are chances that a strong immune response will help in faster recover.
So in today’s post, we will be talking about some simple foods that you can consume to boost your immunity.
Citrus Fruits
We are sure most of you might be aware that Vitamin C present in Citrus Fruits helps you in fighting flu and flu like illnesses. Vitamin C is known to boost your immune system and also improve your response to allergic foods/ stimulants. Vitamin C rich foods are oranges, lemons, grapefruits, Berries, Gooseberries (Aamla), Guava, red bell peppers etc.
Broccoli
Is not just a pretty looking vegetable but also a super food. Broccoli is rich in Vitamin A, C, E and other micro nutrients that are all essential to strengthen your immune response. Make sure to include at least 2 4 servings of broccoli over a week in your diet.
Garlic
Is famous for its medicinal properties. Amongst all the qualities, garlic is also supposed to be good for boosting your immunity. So add lots of garlic in your meals, you can also have a small garlic pod, early in the morning- all you have to do is swallow it like a pill with the help of water.
Ginger
Like garlic, ginger too has anti-viral properties and is also good for boosting your immunity. Include garlic along with ginger in your curries, veggies, soups and also tea.
Yogurt
Yogurt is the best natural probiotic. It helps in ensuring that your gut is functioning properly. It helps in restoring the health bacteria in the gut. A healthy gut simply means a healthy body. So remember to include lots of yogurt in your diet.
Almonds
Almonds are again a storehouse of Vitamin E, Vitamin C and healthy fats all of which are immune boosting ingredients. So remember to include at least 5-6 Almonds in your diet daily.
Turmeric
Turmeric or haldi is a part of traditional Indian cooking, besides we have also used Turmeric on our wounds as it has anti-septic properties. Similarly, Turmeric is also an excellent immunity boosting food. It is a given that our vegetable preparations and curries have turmeric in them, in case if you do not use much of it in your cooking- it is time that you include in your diet.
The whole idea is to have a healthy diet, eat foods that are well cooked and prepared by following adequate hygiene measures.
There is no replacement to social distancing and self-quarantine, following preventive measures like hand washing, covering your face with a mask, covering your nose and mouth while sneezing and coughing, disinfecting surfaces etc.
