Get A Festive ‘Glow’ This Diwali By Following These 5 Skincare Mantras

Do you magically get a zit whenever there’s a festive occasion? Well, Diwali is just around the corner and the stress of shopping, cleaning, renovations, and bills may lead to pimples and suck our skin dry of glow. And you know that no celebration is complete without a radiant skin.

So, let’s work towards project ‘glowing skin’ by following some mantras before Diwali to get that ravishing radiance.

PS: Light on your pocket as it does not involve extravagant beauty treatments.

  1. Keep calm & drink water- When you drink water throughout the day your skin becomes moisturized and it will have a fresh feel. Water also flushes out unwanted toxins in the body which is one of the reasons for your radiant skin. A well-hydrated skin has improved color, elasticity and delays the signs of aging.

What to do: It is recommended to drink at least 2-3 liters of water a day. If drinking water all day is boring, try sipping infused water or green tea. Limit your intake of sugary and caffeinated beverages.

1. You are what you eat- Food alone doesn’t cause or prevent a skin condition. However, a combination of your genes, diet, lifestyle can play a role in how healthy your skin looks. If you want to get glowing skin in time for the Diwali festivities, have a diet rich in vitamins A, E, D, and antioxidants. Stock up on your omega-3s for that crystal-clear skin.

What to do: Steer clear from processed foods and sugary items as they lead to clogged pores, oil production, inflammation, and even acne. You can also consult a certified dietitian for more personalized advice.

2. Get quality zzz’s- You better get some quality shut-eye if you want to slay the D-day. Skimping on sleep releases stress hormone which promotes skin inflammation resulting in flare-ups such as acne, psoriasis, and allergies. Develop a routine so that you can wake up and hit the sack at a particular time.

What to do: Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep every night. Ditch electronic gadgets at least an hour before sleeping as they cause sleeplessness.

3. Hot showers are a no-no- Regular hot showers are not just bad for your skin but for your hair too. High-temperature water can dry out and irritate your skin. It can damage that layer of your skin that locks in the moisture. Washing your hair in excessively hot water can dry out your scalp, dry, make your hair rough and more prone to breakage.

What to do: If the weather is cool and the thought of cold water gives you chills, you can go for lukewarm baths. As for your hair, wash it with either cold water or lukewarm water.

4. Be alert of sun damage- Staying in the sun too long will not only gets you tanned but also causes sunburns, blisters, and skin redness. UV damage is also one of the major causes of wrinkles and age spots. While having optimal sun exposure daily is good for health, overexposure, on the other hand, can lead to skin complications.

What to do: Consult a dermatologist and get a sunscreen according to your skin type. If your day involves staying outdoors for a long time, cover your face, hair and wear sunglasses. Try wearing full-sleeved clothes and long pants.
